Title : No More Annual Do Overs

Dated : 01/14/2007

Content:

Scripture for today:  Hebrews 10:1-3

This scripture is about Day of Atonement which was done once a year in biblical days. The Hebrew word for atonement means “to cover.” Each year for one day the people had to come together and make a blood sacrifice “to cover” for their sin. It was an annual reminder of their past and present wrongs. What guilt they must have felt when dredging up all that sin year after year, knowing they still had to come together again the next year. You see, this was the only day that the High Priest could go into the Most Holy Place of the tabernacle. There he begged forgiveness of God for the people.

Today, many of us do a “day of atonement” over and over again. We continue to feel guilt or shame over our past. We do a “day of atonement” and then try to move on – only to find ourselves right back there again. It becomes a vicious cycle.

(God says) Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more. And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. Hebrews 10:17-18

Day of Atonement ended the day that Jesus Christ died for our sins. He was the permanent sacrifice for sin. No longer would we have to have an annual “do-over.”  It was finished at His death. Jesus stood before His Father one time on our behalf. God tells us in the scripture above that He remembers our sin no more. There is no longer need for Day of Atonement – no more sacrifice for sin. Jesus paid it all and all to Him we owe—

Pledge today to destroy your “day of atonement” ritual. No more guilt, ladies! Jesus died for past, present, and future sins. Don’t make a mockery of His sacrifice by continuing to dredge up your past sins. Let them go. The past is done and is behind us. Start fresh! The Blood of the Lamb atones you!

Close in personal prayer.
