Journal entry, March, 2004:
At LRW our speaker made a profound statement. Wrong is wrong. Public opinion will never make it right. Of course, we sit here today and agree with this statement. Of course it is right! Do we live it day by day though?
Public opinion has made TV hard to watch with a child in the room. There are actually shows I would not care to watch with my teenager in the room! Public opinion has made what we wear, how we act, how we marry, what sex we marry, what we buy, and what we sell seem right. I have to admit the movies I rent at the rental store today would have been off limits when I was growing up. Several of the cute Sandra Bullock or Julia Roberts movies would have been R rated and then some back in the day. Today there is no issue. So much has changed with time. One thing hasn’t – the Word of God. That will never change. What was wrong then is still wrong now. Public opinion then and public opinion now will never make it right.
Our kids are learning things in school that was once up to the parent to teach. Our spouses are dealing openly with things in the workplace that was once condemned. Our churches are changing with the times in some cases. What happened to what is wrong is wrong? I used to think my mom was nuts big time for not letting us go to the movies on Sundays. I couldn’t even ride my bike in the neighborhood on Sundays! Was mom wrong? Not really. She was trying to teach us that we were to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy – one of the Ten Commandments! To this very day I hold a lot of things as off limits on Sundays because my mom instilled that value in me. She knew that what is wrong is wrong and regardless of what the other kids in the neighborhood were doing, her kids weren’t doing it on Sunday! I long for the good old days!
NMgirls: Do you know what is wrong? Do you know that it will never be right? Do you know that regardless of how right the world may try to make it, it will always be wrong in God’s eyes? Examine yourself today. What word does God have for you?
